Frequently Asked Questions

What is ImageKit?

ImageKit is a native Mac menu bar utility for converting and compressing images. 100% offline, no uploads, complete privacy. Perfect for Mac & iPhone users who need to convert HEIC, WEBP, AVIF, PNG, JPEG, RAW and more.

Why pay when free web converters exist?

Privacy: Free converters upload your files to strangers' servers. Would you upload your passport, ID, or client work to a random website?

Speed: Web converters are slow (upload + process + download). ImageKit converts 100 images in 3 seconds.

Convenience: Need 5-10 different websites for different formats. ImageKit does it all in one place.

Offline: Web converters need internet. ImageKit works anywhere, anytime.

How much does ImageKit cost?

€19 one-time payment. No subscription, no hidden fees, no price increases.

You get:

  • Native Mac menu bar utility (macOS 10.15+)
  • Convert & compress images instantly
  • All future updates free (more formats, features)

What formats does ImageKit support?

All the formats Mac & iPhone users need:

  • iPhone formats: HEIC/HEIF (critical for iPhone photos)
  • Modern web: WEBP, AVIF, JPEG XL
  • Standard: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF
  • Professional: PSD, SVG, TGA
  • Camera RAW: DNG, CR2/CR3, NEF, ARW, ORF, RAF

Does ImageKit upload my images to the cloud?

No. Never. All processing happens on your Mac. Your files never leave your device. This is the main reason ImageKit exists — complete privacy. Perfect for sensitive files like passports, IDs, or client work.

What platforms does ImageKit support?

Mac only. ImageKit is a native macOS menu bar utility built specifically for Mac users.

  • macOS: 10.15 (Catalina) or later
  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) and Intel Macs supported
  • Optimized for Mac & iPhone workflow (HEIC support)

Windows/Linux? Not planned. We're focused on making the best Mac experience possible.

Will the price increase later?

No. €19 is the permanent price. No "early access" tricks, no price increases. Buy once, own forever.

Can I use ImageKit for commercial work?

Yes! Your license allows both personal and commercial use. Convert images for client projects, websites, apps, or any business purpose. Your clients' files stay private on your computer.

Does ImageKit support batch conversion?

Yes! Convert hundreds of images at once. ImageKit uses parallel processing to maximize your CPU — 100 images in about 3 seconds on modern hardware.

What's your refund policy?

Due to the digital nature of software, all sales are final. However, we may consider refunds for technical issues preventing installation or duplicate purchases within 7 days. See our Refund Policy for details.

Will I get updates?

Yes, forever. All future updates are free. New formats, new features (compression, cropping), performance improvements — all included in your €19 purchase.

What features are coming next?

All included in your €19 purchase (free updates):

  • Smart compression — reduce file sizes without quality loss (v1.0)
  • Quick Actions integration — right-click in Finder to convert
  • Keyboard shortcuts — global shortcuts for quick access
  • Cropping & resizing — quick edits before conversion
  • More formats — as new formats emerge

How fast is ImageKit really?

Built with Rust for maximum performance on Mac. Typical results:

  • Single iPhone HEIC photo: <100ms
  • 100 images (1080p): ~3 seconds
  • Large RAW files: Instant (no upload time)

Compare that to web converters: upload (5 min) + process (5 min) + download (5 min) = 15 minutes.

Menu bar utility: Drag images to menu bar icon, get instant results. Always accessible.

Do I need an internet connection?

No! Once installed, ImageKit works completely offline. Convert images on a plane, train, or anywhere without WiFi. This is a huge advantage over web converters.

Can I install ImageKit on multiple Macs?

Yes! Install on any Macs you personally own — MacBook, iMac, Mac Studio, work Mac, etc. One purchase, unlimited installs (for personal use).

Is there a file size limit?

No limits. Convert 50MB RAW files, 100MB PSDs, whatever you need. Web converters typically limit you to 10-50MB. ImageKit has no restrictions.

What if I have technical issues?

Priority email support at support@imagekit.ink. We respond within 48 hours on business days and help troubleshoot any issues.

Is ImageKit open source?

ImageKit itself is not open source, but it's built using open-source libraries (Rust, Tauri, image processing libraries). Full attribution is available in the app.

When will ImageKit be available?

We're finalizing the app now. Join the notification list on the homepage to get an email when it's ready to download. Should be very soon!

Is €19 really worth it?

Ask yourself:

  • Would you upload your passport to a random website?
  • Is your time worth more than €19? (Save hours vs web converters)
  • Do you convert images regularly? (€19 ÷ 100 uses = €0.19 per use)

If you answered yes to any of these, then yes — it's worth it. See the full comparison: ImageKit vs Free Web Converters
